Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Pasco County last night that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:57 pm, a Honda CB500 motorcycle driven by a 27-year-old Auburndale man was traveling on northbound SR-39 at a high rate of speed.
At the same time, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 17-year-old Plant City man, was traveling on southbound SR-39.
While attempting to pass multiple northbound vehicles in a no-passing zone south of Pattie Road, the motorcyclist collided head-on with the Jeep.
After the impact, the motorcycle overturned before colliding with a guardrail and bursting into flames.
The rider was propelled down an adjacent embankment, suffering fatal injuries.
The Jeep came to final rest along the shoulder of the roadway, with the driver and several teen passengers suffering minor injuries.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
