Breaking News Overnight: Hit-and-run suspect arrested after allegedly being involved in fatal collision with pedestrian

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol arrested a hit-and-run suspect who was allegedly involved in a fatal collision in Marion County.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:56 pm, a 40-year-old Ocala woman driving a pickup truck was traveling west on Spring Road.

At the same time, a 49-year-old pedal cyclist from Ocala towing a motorized scooter with a passenger (an 84-year-old Ocala man), and they were traveling east on Spring Road.

As they approached, the pickup truck struck the pedal cyclist and scooter with its right front section and fled the scene in a westerly direction.

The suspect was quickly located by deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office within the same neighborhood where the crash had occurred. The FHP proceeded to the address where the suspect was positively identified as the hit-and-run vehicle due to parts of the pickup truck on the scene that matched the damage to the vehicle. Video footage from a residence recorded the crash, which assisted in the positive identification of the suspect.

The driver was arrested for Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving a Death and Injury to another.

According to the report, the passenger was pronounced deceased, while the cyclist suffered serious injuries.

The FHP did not release the names of the hit-and-run driver, the cyclist or passenger involved in the collision.
