Breaking News Overnight: Driver runs red light, crashes into Lee County Sheriff's vehicle in fatal collision

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Lee County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:39 pm on Tuesday, a Nissan SUV driven by a 23-year-old Naples woman was traveling east on Miromar Outlet Drive, approaching a red traffic control signal at the intersection of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway in Estero.

At the same time, a marked Lee County Sheriff's Office SUV was traveling north on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, approaching a green traffic control signal, at the intersection of Miromar Outlet Drive.

As they approached, the first vehicle traveled through the red traffic signal, entered the LCSO vehicle's path, and collided.

The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene.
The driver of the LCSO vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the two drivers.
