Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after collision with tractor-trailer in Polk County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Polk County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 2:12 AM, a single-unit box truck was traveling eastbound on SR-570. 

At the same time, a tractor-trailer, driven by a 51-year-old Tampa man, was traveling eastbound on SR-570 ahead of the first vehicle.  

Near the 11.5 milepost, the second vehicle reduced speed while the first did not. As a result, the two collided.

After the crash, both vehicles came to a final rest in the outside lane, with the first vehicle erupting in flames. 

The driver of the first vehicle suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash and has yet to be identified. 

The second driver did not report any injuries to the FHP. 

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
