Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County this morning, resulting in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 1 am, a 33-year-old Miami man driving a sedan was traveling west on County Road 74 (Bermont Road), approaching the traffic signal intersection of State Road 31.

At the same time, a 21-year-old Sarasota woman driving a sedan was traveling south on State Road 31, approaching the traffic signal intersection of Bermont Road.

The crash remains under investigation to determine which vehicle had the right of way through the intersection. The front of the first vehicle collided with the left side of the second vehicle.

After the collision, the second vehicle traveled off the roadway, collided with a street sign, and overturned.

The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The driver of the first vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, according to the report.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
