Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after a single-vehicle collision in Hernando County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision this morning in Hernando County that resulted in the death of the driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:42 am, a Toyota Tundra, driven by a 23-year-old Weeki Wachee man, was traveling westbound on State Road 50.  

West of US-19, the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, and the vehicle entered the north shoulder of the highway and struck a utility pole. 

After the collision, the vehicle was redirected back across the roadway, entered the south shoulder, and overturned, ejecting the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt.

Transported to an area hospital, the driver later died from injuries suffered during the crash.   

 The FHP did not release the driver's name involved in the crash.
