Updating Breaking News: Passenger dies after a three-vehicle collision in Hernando County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision yesterday in Hernando County that resulted in the death of a passenger.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Spring Hill Drive, in a continuous left turn lane. 

At the same time, a BMW X6 was traveling eastbound on Spring Hill Drive. 

At the intersection of Godfrey Avenue, the first vehicle turned left into the path of the second vehicle and was struck by it. 

After the collision, the first vehicle rotated and collided with a Jeep Renegade, which was traveling northbound and was stopped at the intersection of Godfrey Avenue. 

Transported to an area hospital, a passenger (a 50-year-old Spring Hill man) traveling in the first vehicle later died from injuries suffered during the crash. 

The driver, Alexes Mishel Haynes, a 31-year-old Spring Hill woman, suffered serious injuries, was transported to an area hospital, and arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving while their license was suspended involving a death.   

The FHP did not release the names of the other drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
