Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after a single-vehicle collision in Charlotte County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision in Charlotte County this morning that resulted in the death of the driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 1:04 am, an 18-year-old Punta Gorda man driving a sedan was traveling south on Piper Road, approaching Jones Loop at a high rate of speed.
As it advanced, the vehicle left the roadway at a curve and collided with a utility pole and a fence.
After the crash, the vehicle overturned, and the driver was partially ejected.
The driver was pronounced deceased on scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the name of the driver involved in the crash.
