Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision between a bicycle and two vehicles last night in Hernando County that resulted in the death of the bicyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:20 pm, a Toyota Prius, driven by a 72-year-old Brooksville man, was traveling eastbound on Powell Road.
At the same time, a Ford F150, driven by a 46-year-old Brooksville man, was traveling westbound on Powell Road.
West of Angelica Avenue, a 61-year-old Brooksville man riding a bicycle attempted to cross the highway. The bicyclist entered the path of the first vehicle and was struck. Upon impact, the bicyclist was propelled into the path of the second vehicle, which also struck it.
Transported to an area hospital, the bicyclist later died from injuries suffered during the crash.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or bicyclist involved in the crash.
