Breaking News Overnight: Bicyclist hit and killed by SUV in Sarasota County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision in Sarasota County last night that resulted in the death of a bicyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:35 pm, a 56-year-old Sarasota man driving a sport utility vehicle was traveling south on the left lane of North Lockwood Ridge Road, north of Grocio Road.

At the same time, a male bicyclist was standing on the middle-painted median of North Lockwood Ridge Road, attempting to cross North Lockwood Ridge Road, in front of the approaching SUV, and they collided.

The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of the bicyclist or driver involved in the crash.
