Breaking News Overnight: Bicyclist hit and killed by SUV in Pasco County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision last night in Pasco County that resulted in the death of a bicyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:05 pm, a Honda Pilot sport utility vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old Wesley Chapel man, was traveling eastbound on SR-56. 

At the intersection of Shops Lane, a 50-year-old female bicyclist from Wesley Chapel was crossing the highway in a marked crosswalk. 

As they approached, the SUV driver failed to stop for a red traffic signal, continued into the intersection, and collided with the bicyclist. 

The driver was not injured; however, the bicyclist was transported to an area hospital and later died from her injuries. 

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or bicyclist involved in the collision.
