A 23-year-old Lake City man died early Thursday after his vehicle left County Road 18A in Union County, became airborne and overturned, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Investigators said the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

A 23-year-old Lake City man was killed early Thursday morning after his vehicle left the roadway and became airborne in Union County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. on County Road 18A near Southwest 63rd Street. Troopers said the man was driving a 2006 Nissan northbound when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway onto the grass shoulder.
According to the FHP, the Nissan struck the edge of Southwest 63rd Street, causing it to become airborne as it crossed the roadway. The vehicle then struck the ground on the shoulder before coming to rest on the grass shoulder of County Road 18A.
Investigators said the driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been notified.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
