Two passengers—one a 4-year-old child—were killed early Saturday morning in a head-on crash on Eiland Boulevard in Pasco County, according to a report released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:37 am, south of Handcart Road. Investigators say a Nissan Altima traveling northbound on Eiland Boulevard crossed into the southbound lane for unknown reasons and collided nearly head-on with a Hyundai Santa Fe.
Following the impact, both vehicles rotated and came to rest in the travel lanes.
A 4-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Altima and a 40-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Santa Fe suffered fatal injuries at the scene, according to the report.
The drivers of both vehicles and the remaining occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
