According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:08 a.m., a 36-year-old Palatka man driving a tractor-trailer was traveling south on US-301 in the left lane, and a 65-year-old Sprakers, NY man driving a sport utility vehicle was traveling north on US- 301 in the left lane.
At the same time, a 40-year-old Citra man was walking/standing within the southbound left lane of US-301. The first driver could not observe the pedestrian in time to avoid collision and struck him, which caused the pedestrian to be redirected across the center grass median and come to rest within the northbound lanes of US-301.
The SUV driver could not avoid the pedestrian lying on the roadway and struck the pedestrian with its undercarriage.
Both vehicles remained on the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased by Marion County Fire Rescue.
The FHP did not release the drivers' names or the pedestrian involved in the collision.
