Breaking News Overnight: Motorcyclist dies after collision with SUV in Marion County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Marion County that resulted in the death of the motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:49 pm, a 23-year-old Ocala man riding a motorcycle was traveling north on US-441, approaching the intersection of NW 95 Street.

At the same time, a 29-year-old Ocala man driving a sport utility vehicle was traveling west on NW 95 Street.

As they approached, the SUV traveled into the northbound lanes of US-441 from a stop sign while attempting to cross over the northbound lanes to enter the paved median.

The motorcycle struck the SUV's left side with its front section, causing it to overturn.

The motorcycle also overturned, and the driver was thrown from the vehicle.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital, where the motorcyclist later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased while in medical care. The SUV driver experienced minor injuries, according to the FHP report.

The investigation is ongoing.

The FHP did not release the drivers' names involved in the collision.
