Breaking Morning News: One dead, three injured after a two-vehicle collision in Hillsborough County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Hillsborough County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:17 am, a Kia Sedona, driven by a 48-year-old Ruskin man, was traveling westbound on Interstate 4 in the inside lane. 

At the same time, a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by a 21-year-old Parrish man, was traveling westbound on Interstate 4 in the inside center lane. 

East of I-275 at Milepost 1, and for an unknown reason, the first vehicle entered the inside shoulder and collided with an attenuator. The vehicle was redirected back into the travel lanes. It collided with the second vehicle when one of the passengers traveling in the first vehicle was ejected onto the roadway. 

After the collision, both vehicles traveled to final rest along the outside shoulder of the interstate.  

The driver of the first vehicle suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, while the second driver was unharmed.  

The three passengers traveling in the first vehicle (a 50-year-old St. Petersburg man, a 46-year-old St. Petersburg man, and a 46-year-old St. Petersburg woman) all suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital. 

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
