Breaking Morning News: One dead, one critically injured after a two-vehicle collision in Manatee County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Manatee County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:45 am, a sedan driven by a 77-year-old Bradenton woman was traveling east, on the eastbound outside travel lane of State Road 70, approaching the Interstate 75 southbound exit ramp.
At the same time, a semi-truck driven by a 58-year-old Sarasota man was traveling east, on eastbound State Road 70 inside #2 travel lane, approaching the same Interstate 75 southbound exit ramp.
As the two vehicles approached, the sedan driver improperly changed from the eastbound outside travel lane into the path of the semi. As a result, the front of the second vehicle collided with the left side of the first vehicle.
The first driver was pronounced deceased on scene. A passenger in the sedan, a 78-year-old Bradenton man, sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
The semi-truck driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passengers.
