Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Pasco County that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:42 am, a garbage truck operated by Waste Management was traveling westbound in the left turn lane on State Road 54.
At the same time, a motorcycle was traveling eastbound on SR-54.
At the intersection of Monmouth Drive, the garbage truck turned left into the path and was struck by the motorcycle.
The rider, a 51-year-old Lutz man, suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
The truck driver, a 35-year-old Spring Hill man, was not injured during the incident.
The FHP did not release the name of the motorcyclist or the driver involved in the collision.
