A 46-year-old Melrose man died Wednesday morning after losing control of a motorcycle at the intersection of SE 8th Avenue and SE 35th Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 7 am.
FHP reported that the motorcyclist was traveling east on SE 35th Street when, for reasons still under investigation, he failed to stop or slow for a stop sign at the intersection.
The motorcycle continued through the stop sign and left the roadway. The rider then lost control on the grass shoulder, according to the report.
The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released in the report, but FHP said his next of kin had been notified.
The crash remains under investigation.
