A 70-year-old Sarasota man was critically injured Friday morning after his Porsche SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a cement truck on State Road 72, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:33 a.m. on April 17 at the intersection of Clark Road (State Road 72) and Churchill Downs Road in Sarasota County.
According to investigators, the Porsche SUV was traveling eastbound on Clark Road when it veered into the westbound lane and into the direct path of an oncoming cement truck driven by a 38-year-old man from Palmetto.
The front left of the Porsche struck the left front of the cement truck, triggering a violent chain reaction. The SUV rotated counterclockwise and left the roadway to the north, while the cement truck also veered off the road and overturned in a grassy ditch.
The Porsche came to rest in a ditch south of the roadway, facing north. The cement truck ended on its right side, facing northeast.
Emergency responders transported the driver of the Porsche to Sarasota Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The cement truck driver sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The FHP did not release the name of the driver involved in the crash.
