Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Sumter County that resulted in serious injuries to one of the drivers.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 2:33 pm, a Toyota Sienna, driven by a 60-year-old Walhalla, South Carolina woman, was traveling eastbound on CR-470.

At the same time, a Mack truck, driven by a 50-year-old Leesburg man, was traveling eastbound on CR-470 behind the first vehicle.

While approaching Bedrock Resources Limerock Mine located at 4289 East CR-470, the first vehicle entered a right turn lane, then abruptly attempted a U-Turn back into the path of the truck.

As a result, the front of the truck collided with the left side of the first vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital, while Driver 2 was uninjured during the event.

The FHP did not release the names of either driver involved in the crash.

This is breaking news and may be updated if more details are known.
