 A 49-year-old Umatilla man was killed, and another driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:42 pm on County Road 439 south of Freeman Drive.

FHP reported that the Umatilla man was driving a 2020 Ford Escape north on County Road 439 while a 22-year-old Lake Mary man was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado south on the same road.

According to the crash report, the Ford Escape failed to remain in the northbound lane and entered the Silverado’s path. The front-left portions of the two vehicles collided, causing both vehicles to overturn.

The Escape’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Silverado’s driver was transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital with injuries described by FHP as minor and not life-threatening.

According to the report, both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation.
