Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision yesterday in Brevard County that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:56 pm, a 2010 Ford Escape driven by a 59-year-old Titusville woman was traveling north on US-1 north of Glenn Road, in the inside lane.
At the same time, a 37-year-old Mims woman riding a bicycle was traveling north in the center grass median of US-1 north of Glenn Road.
As they approached, the bicyclist began traveling in a northeasterly direction from the center grass median to the inside lane of US-1, traveled into the direct path of the SUV, and they collided.
The bicyclist was transported to Parrish Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased from the injuries sustained in the collision. The SUV driver reported no injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the name of the driver or the bicyclist involved in the collision.
