Updating Breaking News: Bicyclist hit and killed by pickup truck in Marion County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a bicyclist who was hit and killed by a vehicle yesterday in Marion County.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:41 a.m., a pickup truck driven by a 31-year-old Ocala man was traveling westbound on County Road 464 (SE Maricamp Road) east of Lake Road in the outside lane.

At the same time, a 71-year-old Ocala man riding a bicycle was traveling westbound on County Road 464 east of Lake Road on the north paved shoulder.

As they approached, the bicyclist suddenly swerved into the outside travel lane of westbound County Road 464, and they collided.

The bicyclist was propelled north onto the north grassy shoulder.

The pickup truck traveled off the roadway onto the north grassy shoulder and came to a final rest facing northwest. The bicyclist and bicycle also came to a final rest on the north grassy shoulder.

The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue Paramedics.

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or the bicyclist.
