Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this afternoon in Citrus County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:10 p.m., a GMC Sierra sport utility vehicle driven by a 44-year-old Inverness man was traveling westbound on State Road 44 in the outside lane.
At the same time, a single-unit water tanker truck, driven by a 55-year-old Ocala man, was traveling westbound on SR-44, watering the grass median in an active construction zone with amber warning lights activated in the inside lane.
As the SUV approached the second vehicle near the intersection of South Redbud Terrace, the driver lost control and collided with the rear of the water tanker.
The driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, while the water tanker truck driver was uninjured during the incident.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
