Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision Wednesday in Citrus County that resulted in the death of a passenger and injuries to two others.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:20 p.m., a Toyota RAV4 driven by a 41-year-old Inverness man was traveling eastbound on Stage Coach Trail.

At the same time, a Honda Civic, driven by a male 17-year-old from Lecanto, was traveling westbound on Stage Coach Trail.

West of South Trail 9, the first driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.  The vehicle entered the south shoulder of the roadway, at which time the driver over-corrected back across the travel lanes.

Once in the westbound lane, the first vehicle collided nearly head-on with the second.

The driver of the first vehicle suffered minor injuries, while the second driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

A passenger traveling in the second vehicle, an 18-year-old Citrus Springs woman, suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.

This breaking news may be updated again if more details are known.
