Updating Breaking News: One dead, two injured after a three-vehicle collision in Union County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision yesterday in Union County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:30 pm, a pickup truck driven by a 30-year-old Lake Butler man was southbound on State Road 121 behind a Ford SUV driven by a 17-year-old male resident of Lake Butler.

The SUV driver slowed to make a left turn, while the driver of the Ford pickup failed to slow down, causing the front of the pickup to collide with the rear of the SUV.

After the crash, the SUV was forced into oncoming northbound traffic on State Road 121. A Semi truck driven by a 38-year-old Gainesville man traveling northbound on State Road 121 collided with the right side of the SUV.

The semi truck rolled over after the collision, blocking both lanes of travel. The pickup came to final rest on the east shoulder, where it caught fire. The SUV came to final rest on the east shoulder.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased on scene.

The other two drivers suffered serious injuries, according to the FHP report.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
