Updating Breaking News: One dead, two injured after a three-vehicle collision in Sumter County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision in Sumter County yesterday that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 2 p.m., a Ford F350, driven by a 71-year-old Bushnell man, was traveling northbound on US-301.  

At the same time, a Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by a 63-year-old Lacoochee man, and a Chrysler 300, driven by an 18-year-old Spring Hill man, were traveling southbound on US-301. 

Near the intersection of CR-771, the first vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with the second vehicle, which was then propelled into the third vehicle. 

The drivers of the first and third vehicles suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were not transported for medical care.  The driver of the second vehicle suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.

 The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
