Updating Breaking News: Two teenagers dead after a two-vehicle collision in Lake County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Lake County yesterday that resulted in the death of a driver and a passenger.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:05 pm, a 2008 Toyota Scion, driven by a 16-year-old female from Groveland, was traveling southbound on State Road 33, approaching Groveland Farms Road.

At the same time, a 2021 Lincoln Aviator driven by a 75-year-old Lakeland man was traveling northbound on State Road 33, approaching Groveland Farms Road.

As they approached, the driver of the first vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone and entered the northbound lane. Then, observing the second vehicle approaching, they swerved back into the southbound lane. As a result, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which rotated and entered the northbound lane, directly in the path of the second vehicle, causing them to collide and the first vehicle to overturn.

The driver and passenger in the first vehicle, a 17-year-old male resident of Clermont, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle and a passenger, a 66-year-old Lakeland woman, were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
