A 73-year-old woman was killed, and a 69-year-old man was critically injured, on Wednesday night in a crash involving a sedan and a farm tractor in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:30 pm along U.S. 27, just north of Northwest 160th Avenue.
Investigators say a four-door sedan traveling northbound in the outside lane collided with the rear of a large farm tractor that was traveling ahead of it in the same lane.
The driver of the sedan, a 69-year-old man from Williston, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital. His passenger, a 73-year-old woman also from Williston, was taken to the hospital but later pronounced dead.
The driver of the tractor, a 28-year-old man from Ocala, was not injured in the crash.
According to the report, both occupants of the sedan were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passenger involved in the collision.
