Posted

A 73-year-old man from Reddick was killed Wednesday evening after a pickup truck left the roadway and struck him while he was operating a lawnmower along a Marion County road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6:40 pm at the intersection of Northwest 118th Street Road and Northwest 55th Court Road.

According to the FHP report, a Ford F-150 traveling southbound on Northwest 118th Street Road failed to negotiate a sharp right curve. The vehicle exited the roadway, struck a traffic control sign, and then continued onto the shoulder.

Troopers say the pickup then struck a John Deere lawnmower that was traveling west to east along the shoulder of the road. The lawnmower operator was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The pickup truck continued forward and collided with a large tree, according to the report.

The driver of the pickup, a 51-year-old man from Inverness, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or the lawnmower operator involved in the collision.

This is a breaking news update and may be updated again if more details become available.
