Posted

A Lake County man has been arrested in connection with a fatal wrong-way crash that killed a 20-year-old motorcyclist in 2024, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Michael David Davis, 51, of Eustis, was arrested April 17, 2026, on a warrant and booked into the Lake County Jail. He faces charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide stemming from the crash.

The incident occurred just before midnight on November 1, 2024, along State Road 44 near Hammond Lane in Lake County.

According to investigators, Davis was driving a 2017 Ram 2500 pickup truck westbound in the eastbound lanes of State Road 44 when he collided head-on with a motorcycle ridden by a 20-year-old man from Umatilla.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second motorcyclist, a 41-year-old Umatilla man, attempted to avoid the crash by swerving and laying his motorcycle down. He was transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Davis was not transported following the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the crash, which remained active until the arrest warrant was issued. The case has now resulted in criminal charges more than a year after the fatal incident.

The FHP did not release the names of the other drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
