Updating Breaking News: Driver dies after two-vehicle collision in Brevard County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Brevard County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 1:22 pm a 2016 Honda Odyssey driven by a 40-year-old Merritt Island woman was traveling eastbound on State Road 46 east of Pitbull Lane. At the same time, a 2014 Lincoln MKX driven by a 47-year-old Titusville woman was traveling westbound on SR-46 east of Pitbull Lane.

For an unknown reason, the first vehicle veered into the westbound lane and, as a result, struck the second vehicle. This caused the second vehicle to run off the roadway right, collide with a traffic sign, overturn in a drainage ditch, and come to a final rest overturned on its roof, partially submerged in the ditch.

The driver of the first vehicle and three passengers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while one passenger sustained minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation.
