A 30-year-old Astor man was killed Wednesday morning in a head-on collision on State Road 40 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred on Wednesday at approximately 5:26 am on State Road 40 west of Check Station Road. Troopers said the man was driving a 2004 Buick Rendezvous eastbound when, for unknown reasons, the SUV traveled off the right side of the roadway onto the south shoulder.

According to the FHP, the driver overcorrected to the left, crossing into the westbound lanes directly into the path of a 2017 Ford F-350 hauling a trailer. The front of the SUV collided head-on with the front of the pickup.

The Astor man was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers reported he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Next of kin had not yet been notified when the report was released.

The pickup was driven by a 19-year-old Bunnell man, who sustained minor injuries and later transported himself to a local hospital. A 39-year-old Deland man riding as a passenger was taken to AdventHealth DeLand with non-life-threatening injuries. Both occupants of the truck were wearing seat belts, according to the FHP.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
