A 62-year-old Orlando man died Thursday after the SUV he was driving rear-ended a stopped car and struck a light pole in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at 3:49 pm on C.R. 535, also known as Winter Garden Vineland Road, at Buena Vista Drive, FHP said.
Troopers said the man was driving a 2020 Ford Escape east on C.R. 535 as he approached the intersection. A 2011 Honda Accord, driven by a 45-year-old Orlando man, was stopped ahead at a traffic signal.
The Ford driver failed to stop, and the SUV’s front right side struck the Honda’s rear left side, according to the crash report. The Ford continued east and hit a light pole at the intersection.
The Ford driver was taken to Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Honda driver was not injured, was not taken to a hospital, and remained at the scene, FHP said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the report. The crash remains under investigation.
