Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a pedestrian who was hit and killed by a vehicle this morning in Marion County.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:15 am,  a 29-year-old Ocklawaha woman driving a 2011 Acura SUV was backing out of the driveway of a private residence.

At the same time, a 2-year-old child from that residence (in Silver Springs) was playing in the driveway. The driver of the Acura was unable to observe the child behind the vehicle and, as a result, struck the child.

The child was transported to HCA Ocala Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the child.

This is breaking news and may be updated if more details are known.
