The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for applicants interested in becoming state law enforcement dispatchers at its Sanford Regional Communication Center.
The agency will hold a streamlined hiring event on Friday, October 9, from 1 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sanford Regional Communication Center, 4975 Wilson Road, Sanford.
Dispatchers serve as a critical link between the public and Florida Highway Patrol troopers, handling calls and providing information that helps troopers respond to emergencies and other incidents.
Applicants must be 18 years old or older and should bring a resume and government-issued photo identification to the hiring event.
Salary and shifts
The base salary for the position is $37,936.80 per year. Employees who live in Orange, Brevard, Seminole, Osceola or Lake counties are eligible for an additional $5,000 in critical market pay, bringing the salary to approximately $42,936.60 before applicable shift differentials.
Dispatchers work one of three eight-hour shifts:
- Days: 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Evenings: 1:30 to 9:30 p.m., with a 15% shift differential
- Midnight: 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., with a 10% shift differential
Qualified applicants attending the hiring event will have the opportunity to complete the CritiCall Skills Assessment, which evaluates skills relevant to emergency communications work.
Applicants who successfully complete the assessment will move forward to an interview. Background investigators will also be available at the event to begin the background investigation process.
