Breaking News this Morning: One dead, one critically injured after a head-on collision in Lake County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Lake County this morning that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:30 am, a 52-year-old Clermont man driving a 2018 Nissan Maxima was traveling eastbound on Schofield Road west of Five Mile Road.

At the same time, a 39-year-old Orlando man driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on Schofield Road west of Five Mile Road.

For unknown reasons, the first vehicle failed to maintain its lane and crossed the double yellow line into the westbound lane in the Jeep's direct path. As a result, the two vehicles collided head-on. The impact caused both vehicles to overturn several times.

The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. Air Care transported the driver of the second vehicle to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
