A Tampa motorcyclist and his passenger died after a three-vehicle crash Friday night on US-41 in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:10 pm on August 28 at the intersection of US-41 and 24th Avenue South.
According to the FHP, a 44-year-old Ruskin man was driving a Chevrolet Colorado west on 24th Avenue South when he attempted to turn left at the intersection. The pickup entered the path of a Kawasaki motorcycle traveling north on US-41, and the motorcycle struck the truck.
A 31-year-old Tampa man operated the motorcycle. An 18-year-old Clearwater woman was riding as his passenger.
A second Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by a 20-year-old Tampa man, was traveling north on US-41 behind the first motorcycle. The rider saw the collision hazard, steered to the right to avoid the pickup and overturned, according to the FHP.
All three drivers and the passenger were injured and transported to area hospitals. The 31-year-old motorcyclist and his 18-year-old passenger later died from their injuries.
The pickup driver and the second motorcyclist survived. The FHP did not release information about the severity of their injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
