Breaking News Overnight: Two dead after a fiery head-on collision in Marion County

Posted

Two drivers were killed early Wednesday morning in a head-on crash on State Road 40 in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:53 am, just east of State Road 326. Investigators say a sedan traveling westbound failed to negotiate a curve to the right, crossed over the centerline, and entered the eastbound lane.

The sedan then collided head-on with an eastbound sport utility vehicle. Following the impact, the sedan became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the SUV, a 43-year-old woman from Silver Springs, was transported to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities said the identity of the sedan driver is pending as part of the ongoing investigation, and next-of-kin notifications for both drivers were still in progress at the time of the report.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.

This is a breaking news update and may be updated again if more details become available.
