Breaking News Overnight: Three dead, two injured after head-on collision in Volusia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Volusia County that resulted in three fatalities.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:04 pm, a 2010 Volkswagen Passat driven by a 55-year-old Orlando woman was traveling east in the westbound lane (the wrong way) of State Road 40 west of State Road 11.

At the same time, a 2016 Kia Sorrento driven by a 51-year-old Charlotte, NC woman was traveling westbound on SR-40.

As they approached, the first vehicle, traveling the wrong way in the westbound lane struck the second vehicle head-on.

As a result, the driver of both vehicles and a passenger in the second vehicle (a 74-year-old Brooklyn, NY woman) was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Two other passengers in the second vehicle, a 44-year-old Charlotte, NC woman, and a 45-year-old Charlotte, NC woman, were transported to Halifax Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

This crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the crash.
