A pedestrian was killed early Tuesday after entering the path of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 75 in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:25 am on southbound I-75 near the US 27 overpass at mile marker 354.
According to the FHP report, a tractor-trailer was traveling south in the center lane and crossing the overpass when a pedestrian entered the southbound lanes directly in front of the truck.
The tractor-trailer struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pedestrian’s name, age, and hometown were not immediately available. FHP said authorities were awaiting positive identification and had not yet notified the pedestrian’s next of kin.
The truck driver, a 50-year-old man from Loganville, Georgia, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
