Breaking News Overnight: Pedestrian hit and killed by vehicle in Brevard County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision this morning in Brevard County that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:20 am, a 31-year-old Melbourne man driving a 2019 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on State Road 528 (Beachline Expressway) in the merge lane for the exit ramp to State Road 3 (Courtenay Parkway).

At the same time, a 22-year-old Palm Bay man was walking in the merge lane in the vehicle's path. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing, and the driver advised he did not see him in the roadway. As a result, the vehicle struck the man, who was transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital and pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the driver's name or the pedestrian involved in the collision.
