A 37-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a van on Wednesday night on Spring Garden Avenue in Volusia County. The Florida Highway Patrol said the pedestrian was lying in the roadway for unknown reasons when the collision occurred.

A 37-year-old pedestrian was killed Wednesday night after being struck by a van on Spring Garden Avenue in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:18 p.m. near the intersection of Spring Garden and Douglas avenues.
FHP said a 63-year-old DeBary man was driving a 2020 Ford Transit van north on Spring Garden Avenue. The van was traveling in the inside lane and approaching Douglas Avenue.
For reasons that remain unknown, the pedestrian was lying in the inside travel lane, according to the crash report. The van subsequently struck him.
The pedestrian was transported to AdventHealth DeLand, where he was pronounced dead.
The van driver was not injured and remained at the scene.
The pedestrian’s hometown was listed as unknown. FHP did not release either person’s name, and the report indicated that the pedestrian’s next of kin had not been notified as of its release.
The crash remains under investigation.
