Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision in Lake County this morning that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:48 am, a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan sport utility vehicle driven by a 43-year-old DeLand woman was traveling westbound on State Road 44, approaching Lakeview Drive.
At the same time, a 32-year-old Eustis man was walking north across the westbound travel lane, not in a marked crosswalk, in the direct path of the SUV.
As a result, the front of the SUV hit the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on the scene.
This crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or the pedestrian.
