A 19-year-old Orange City woman was killed Oct. 27 after she was thrown from a motorcycle and struck by a semitruck on Interstate 95 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at 9:06 p.m. near mile marker 272.
Troopers said a 2026 Kawasaki Z900, operated by a 23-year-old Ormond Beach man, was traveling south in the center lane ahead of a 2023 semitruck. According to FHP’s preliminary report, the motorcycle rider was exceeding the posted speed limit and accelerated, causing his passenger to be thrown from the motorcycle.
The woman landed in the center lane directly in front of the semitruck, which struck her with its left front, troopers said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorcycle rider and the truck driver, a 40-year-old Orlando man, were not injured and remained at the scene. FHP said the two vehicles did not impact each other.
The report said both the motorcycle rider and his passenger were wearing helmets. The truck driver was wearing a seat belt.
The woman’s next of kin was notified, but the report did not name anyone involved. The crash remains under investigation.
