A 47-year-old Lakeland man was killed Thursday night when a Hyundai SUV struck his motorized scooter at an intersection in Sumter County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP reported that an 18-year-old Port Charlotte man was driving the Hyundai south on U.S. 301. The scooter was also traveling south and stopped at the intersection with County Road 470.

According to the crash report, the SUV driver failed to stop and collided with the scooter.

The Lakeland man operating the scooter suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. FHP did not release either person's name or provide additional information about the crash.
