Breaking News Overnight: One dead, one injured after a single-vehicle collision in Lake County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision in Lake County this morning that resulted in the death of a passenger.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 2:26 am, a 2024 Chevy Malibu driven by a 26-year-old man from Puerto Rico was traveling eastbound on County Road 48 (Leesburg Highway) approaching the intersection of County Road 33.
The driver failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and ran off the roadway, became airborne over a ditch, struck a tree, and overturned.
The driver and passenger were transported to Leesburg Regional Hospital. The driver suffered minor injuries, while the passenger, a 41-year-old man from Puerto Rico, was pronounced deceased.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or passenger involved in the collision.
