Breaking News Overnight: Motorcyclist dies after a single-vehicle collision in Marion County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision last night in Marion County that resulted in the death of the motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:28 pm, a 50-year-old man from Penobscot, Maine riding a motorcycle was traveling northbound on US 301 in the left lane. As he progressed, the motorcyclist failed to maintain his lane, striking a concrete curb.

After the collision, the motorcycle overturned, coming to a final rest within the center median of US 301.

The motorcyclist was transported under a trauma alert to HCA Ocala Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The FHP did not release the name of the motorcyclist.
