Breaking News Overnight: Lawnmower operator hit and killed by pickup truck in Sumter County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Sumter County last night that resulted in the death of the driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:39 p.m., a lawn mower operated by a 71-year-old Wildwood man was traveling eastbound on CR-222 without lighting. 

At the same time, a Dodge Dakota pickup truck, driven by a 36-year-old Ocala man, was traveling eastbound on CR-222. 

West of Northeast 9th Street, the pickup overtook and collided with the lawn mower. 

Transported to an area hospital, the lawnmower operator later died from injuries suffered during the crash. 

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
